RX Acres Belgians is a business specializing in the breeding and training of Draft Horses.

Dris founded RX Acres Belgians in 1996 with three mares. Since that time RX Acres has grown.  We currently have 18 brood mares. Over the years, Dris has hauled livestock, broke and trained mares, as well as shown livestock. Dris is the Chief Operating Officer at Historic Prophetstown where all the farm work is done with his mares. He teaches draft horse farming and driving clinics throughout the year.

Melissa Brown met Dris while she was attending Purdue University. In the spring of 2004 she started working for him at Historic Prophetstown. She mucked stalls, groomed, and drove the mares. Now with a degree in Animal Science, she is the Manager of Agricultural Operations at Historic Prophetstown and has taken over the breeding, foaling, and is a partner at RX Acres. She also teaches equine reproduction clinics with Historic Prophetstown and RX Acres.

Our mares and foals are bred, raised, and trained to work daily. Our mares are modern, athletic, and often work 8 - 12 hours a day in the field. They not only earn their way on the farm, but produce a yearly profit. We hope to educate and promote draft horse powered farming. Our mares and equipment demonstrate sustainable small scale farming. We prove that horse powered farming is practical, profitable, and possible!

This 11 minute video features our mares and farming program. The video was filmed and edited by Joe Mischka and was aired on Rural Heritage on RFD-tv on November 11, 2011.
